PIETA - Faces of FAT

Everyone, meet Pieta!
From a corporate class participant to becoming one of the most regular, best sense of humour members of our community (she even was one of our models for our latest campaign), here is her interview.
We love you, don’t change and we hope that your story will inspire others! See you at Silo.

Can you tell a little bit about yourself?

Hello I’m Pieta! Some people call me P, I also respond to Peter out of habit lol. Grew up in Palmy  before shifting to Auckland for uni and eventually work. Approaching a decade in the big smoke! So crazy starting uni when you're 12…

I was super active growing up - big in the competitive dance scene, loved performing, loved playing netball, anything active I was locked in. When I got to uni I started treating my body less like a temple and more like a dilapidated building 🥴 took a few years for the proverbial building to start passing its BWoF again (still has its moments ha) but here we are. Big fan of life’s pleasures and having a laugh with friends.

How did you hear about FAT, do you remember your first session?

I had been aware of FAT through socials for a while before I started showing up. My first session was a corporate session offered through my office building. Showed up very nervous!! Left winded (!), sore and curious.

Pulled up to my first silo session a few weeks later - a packed out pissing down FAT Friday. Pretty wicked! Super impressed. My ClassPass credits have been siloed (hideous pun) to FAT ever since.

We have shared a few workouts together, what makes you keep coming back?

A pretty extensive (non-exhaustive) pros list! A solid 45 out by the water, great instructors, epic workouts & music, great friends, banging stress relief, excellent vibes.. you get the idea. All the things you love most about movement and community are built on and enhanced at FAT. Hard to ignore a great thing when you find it.

What would you say to someone hesitating to come to FAT?

Give it a nudge! I was pretty intimidated showing up the first few times but you will find your groove and your people. There is an abundance of good people in the FAT community so you will be in excellent company. Push past your comfort zone and reap the benefits!!

Do you have a most memorable moment with us?

Mmm I did a pretty sorry excuse for a squat jump one session, thought "ahhh well all good" when I heard an appalled french accent over the music "wow. that was the worst squat jump I've seen in my whole life". Whole life he reckons! Chat. Your FAT instructors will keep you honest!

Save for the above – I would say FAT Fridays are always pretty memorable. 12 a year and full of little victories! Say less.

Outside of our weekly session, what is your relationship with exercise/movement?

Pretty balanced these days! Took me a while to reintroduce daily movement to my routine without it feeling like capital punishment lol but now it’s such a fundamental part of my day. So many benefits! Never thought I’d be one of those people that works out before work and enjoys it?? Miracles – they're boundless.

What are your health, life goals in 2024?

Health – keep it fresh, keep it fun, keep it up. Be brave and get to an open dance class.. see if the old dog can remember any old tricks.

Life – yikes.. Figure out what I’m doing?!

Could you tell us 3 pieces of advice you would give to someone on their mental and/or physical health?

Find exercise that you love, find people that love doing it too and keep at it! (insert FAT plug here eh hahah).

Be NICE to your knees!!!! ~ A love letter from a twenty-[REDACTED] year old girl and her geriatric knees.

Invest in yourself – mentally and physically. Capitalise on whatever brings you joy and let go of anything that doesn’t serve you. Life is for living!!
